The reason most homemade sling bags look homemade is depth. They're built like little boxes and they stick out from the body.

This one is drafted shallow — 5 cm deep for an 18 cm width — and slightly tapered, so it lies flat against the chest or the back and moves with you instead of swinging. Rounded corners, a front zip pocket set into the panel seam, a main zip that runs over the top and down both sides, an adjustable webbing strap with a slider, and a yoke that lets the strap sit straight rather than dragging the bag sideways.

It's a small bag with a small parts list — three fabric colours, two zips, one slider, one ring — which makes it an ideal first structured bag. Every seam is short, the inside seams are simply bound (no turning a padded bag through a gap), and the colour blocking means you're only cutting simple shapes.
