The scalloped collar is the whole jacket. It's a Peter Pan shape with a curved petal edge instead of a plain round one, and it's what takes this from "child's coat" to something people ask about in the playground.
Underneath it: a boxy quilted body, elasticated cuffs so sleeves stay pushed up, two patch pockets at the right height for small hands, and snap fasteners rather than buttonholes. Fully lined, so there isn't a raw edge inside it anywhere.
